Yaman - Amir Khan

Yaman needs no introduction. Check out one of the most intense renditions of Yaman by none other than Ustad Amir Khan. It is astonishingly simple, but beautiful. I have a bias for Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, but this has the potential to be the most favorite Yaman of the unbiased.

1. Vilambit in Jhumra Tala (his favorite :)) (43'21)
2. Drut in Teentala (11'11)

Accompanied on the harmonium by Pandit Jnan Prakash Ghosh, and on the Tabla by Pandit Gobinda Bose.

Which Yaman piece of Pandit Bhimsen Joshi are you referencing? :) I'm unable to figure it out...

I must say, the comment from napman is one of the funniest I've seen in a while :P.

BTW, while AK pretty much has the definitive renditions of at least a dozen ragas, I feel the one raga where he has NO competition is Bageshree. The closest I've heard is Bismillah, and even that's not up there in darkness. (Just to make sure, I went back and listened to Kesarbai, Hirabai, BGAK, BJ, AAK, KG, NB, MHK, Rajab Ali, Kishori...)

@Anonymous, while I agree that AK's Bageshree is fantastic, if I have to choose one rendition of his that has NO competition whatsoever, that has to be Marwa (Piya More Aanat Des/Guru Bina Gyan). I do not think I have ever heard a Marwa that touches this one. Check it out here:

And I agree with the generous consensus here. AK's Yaman Kalyan is to die for.
